뒤셀도르프를 중심으로 활동하고 있는 돈야 나세리와 야나 부흐 두 여성작가는 사진 작업과 오브제 그리고 시(詩) 작업과 텍스트 등 가능한 모든 매체를 활용해 동시대 젊은 작가들의 관심사를 주제로 공동작업을 펼치고 있는 설치미술가들이다. 이번에 출품하는 〈메뚜기 이야기〉에서는 인종차별과 편견과 선입견에 맞서 싸웠던 혹은 희생된 유럽의 지성들에 관한 서사적 이야기를 담고 있다.

‘바(Ba)’라는 이름의 메뚜기 형상으로 만든 식탁 위에는 다섯 개의 접시와 컵과 식사 도구, 소지품 그리고 깃발 등이 놓여 있다. 깃발과 접시에는 각각 사진과 텍스트가 포함되어 있어 식탁에 초대된 주인공 5명의 존재와 운명에 관해 알려준다. 메뚜기 ‘바’는 그들의 영혼을 등에 업고 지상에서 천국으로 옮겨갔음을 암시해 고인에 대한 추모의 메시지를 전달한다.

Donja Nasseri and Jana Buch, based in Düsseldorf, are installation artists who collaborate on topics of interest to contemporary young artists using all possible media, including photography, objects, poetry, and text etc. <A locust’s tale>, contains narratives about European intellectuals who were against or sacrificed themselves regarding racism and other social prejudice.

Five plates, cups, eating utensils, belongings, and a flag are placed on a table made in the shape of a grasshopper named ‘Ba’. The flag and plate each contain a photo and text, shows us about the existence and fate of the five main characters invited to the table. The grasshopper ‘Ba’ conveys a message of remembrance for the deceased by implying that they moved from earth to heaven carrying their souls on their backs.
