서양화를 전공한 작가는 오랫동안 자연의 숭고함을 주제로 작업해오고 있다. 보통 자연에서 아름다움을 느낄 때는 구체적인 감각적 체험에서 비롯된 경우가 많다. 예를 들자면 “청명한 하늘, 잎사귀 위에 반짝이는 햇살, 수양버들, 가을 달빛 아래 댓잎, 겨울의 나뭇가지에 이는 바람 소리, 하얀 눈밭, 이른 아침 물안개, 연못에 드리워진 그림자” 등이다. 한동안 작가는 그런 자연의 모티브를 그리려고 애써왔다. 사실적인 재현의 대상으로서가 아니라 사유의 공간으로 해석해 추상적이고 비구상적 요소가 특징적인 화면에서였다.

여전히 작가가 화폭에 담고 싶어 한다는 “미묘하고 신비로운 자연에 대한 경외심”은 이제 겹겹이 쌓인 산의 이미지로써 도전하고 실험하고 있는 중이다.

The artist, majored in Western painting, has been working on the theme of the sublimity of nature for a long time. Usually, when we feel beauty in nature, it often comes from a specific sensory experience. For example, “a clear sky, sunlight sparkling on leaves, a weeping willow, bamboo leaves under the autumn moonlight, the sound of the wind on tree branches in winter, a field of white snow, early morning mist, and a shadow on a pond.” The artist has been drawing such natural motifs on a screen characterized by abstract and non-representational elements, interpreted not as an object of realistic reproduction but as a space for thought.

The “reverence for subtle and mysterious nature” that the artist still wants to capture on canvas is now being challenged and experimented with images of layers of mountains.​​
